It is so amazing how sports are a great way to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ!

On April the basket ball team from Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, the Lady Nights: Alexa Weaver, Renee Militello, Lauren Turner, Laura Strode, Grace Gebauer, Lauren Carver, Sara VanderWaal, Bethanie Donovan, Sarah Grenier, Whitney McCloud, Sarah Homan, headed by the leader and coach Krista Newell and the second coach  Rob Mouw came to Chihuahua Mexico.

They played three games against two of the Chihuahua State Selections. The Lady Nights shared the gospel in every game to players and basket ball staff.

The Lord opened the doors for them and were invited to a TV Program called “Let’s Talk About Basket Ball”. They were introduced by a bronze medal mexican olympic athlete. They shared the purpose of their visit to Mexico including their faith. They appeared in one of the best local newspaper as well.

The third and last game was played in Delicias City, Chihuahua, where they won the game in the last seconds. A game that became very tight after the second quarter. My self and the audience really enjoyed that game!

They also worked a couple days with children of an orphanage sharing the Gospel and taking them to the park where they played for hours.

We were so blessed by their visit!

Sports clinics can be used to impact a nation for Christ. People of all nationalities love sports. Providing a free clinic with quality coaches and organized instruction can attract children and adults. These clinics provide a valuable service people appreciate. They are platforms which allow us to share not only our knowledge of a sport but also our testimonies of God's love and work in our own lives.

We experienced the impact sports clinics can make this past summer in Uzhgorod, Ukraine. A girls soccer team from Canada gave soccer clinics for children of all ages in one small area of town. We had 30-50 children show up on a daily basis. We would split the children into smaller groups by age and the girls would work with them teaching techniques, doing drills, etc. Then they would have a snack break, share testimonies and end with short games. For many of these children it may be the first time they had heard someone share about a personal relationship with God. At the end of the week a group of about 15 young children received Christ as their Savior.

For many Ukrainian people God is an all-powerful distant being that punishes us for what we do wrong. They have a very religious idea of who God is. We can bring them the true picture of a loving God that has already done everything in His power to bring us into an intimate relationship with Himself. Sports clinics can be just the tool you need to share your relationship with God.

Sports Ministry is the base from which Christian Outreach International has grown. Using sports as a medium to share Christ with others worldwide, we have seen countless people come to a saving knowledge of who Christ is and what He offers those who seek Him, believe in Him and turn their lives over to Him. Over the years, C.O.I. has expanded its ministry to include various other opportunities as they present themselves.

We have seen great things happen through sports ministry in Ukraine. We have had several teams from around North America travel there for games and ministry over the years. C.O.I. has also operated a football team in Ukraine, using practices and road trips as a chance to share God with the young men on the team.

This summer we are offering a trip to any individuals who play/love sports and want to share God’s love with others. The trip will be hosted at our base in Uzhgorod, Ukraine, where we will offer sports clinics and demonstrations in a number of sports. (basketball, American football, soccer, and volleyball). Time will be spent putting on clinics to teach strategy or fundamentals in these sports, as well as sharing God’s love through building relationships and sharing your faith story.
