Who needs prayer?

Just recently I started a series of study on prayer. The longer I am in ministry the more I realize the need for prayer. If you are anything like me, you get caught up in your daily routine and then in all the paper work and office chores.

If you are a full time minister, part time minister or part of the body of Christ, then ask yourself these questions:

  • How often am I involved in ministry?
  • What is the goal of each ministry?

Many of us do some type of ministry everyday. During summer tour season with COI, we minister in several different places in one day. Our main goal is to preach the good news and bring God’s love to people in order to bring them to Christ. But how much do we pray?

During my study on prayer, I read this verse from the Bible:

"Stay alert; be in prayer so you don't wander into temptation without even knowing you're in danger. There is a part of you that is eager, ready for anything in God. But there's another part that's as lazy as an old dog sleeping by the fire." (MSG)

That verse was a reflection of me and my attitude toward prayer. I realize that there is a part of me that is ready for anything. I’m ready to be in the office and do all kinds of work. And there is another part of me that is just like that lazy dog laying by the fire. I realize that when you have a prayer meeting by yourself it’s easy to postpone it and say to yourself "Oh, I can do it later." Then before you know it the day has ended.

We just started daily prayer meetings for COI, summer tour season, our missionaries and staff around the world, local ministries, local churches, and our personal needs. I’m committed to pray daily for these things. I realize more and more that I need these prayers more than anybody else.

I want to finish with this verse:

Matt. 18:19

"When two of you get together on anything at all on earth and make a prayer of it, my Father in heaven goes into action."
