Teach ESL in Ukraine

I want to share with you an awesome opportunity to reach out to another nationality. Teaching English as a second language brings people of all walks of life, from 10 years old to 65, straight to you. They are so eager to learn the language that they believe is their only chance for a better life. But we know the truth and we can share with them that the only way you find true meaning and purpose in life is when you give your life to God.

We had one student named Dima. He probably attended our school for 5 years before he found Christ. He watched and listened to and spent time with our teachers. And eventually he met Jesus. Now his whole family is following Christ.

All of our students have experienced studying in the public schools and many times even taken private English classes other places or hired tutors, but they see something different in our teachers. They see the love that comes from serving Christ and they see how much we care about them.

Have you ever thought about taking a break from the normal routine of life and dedicating that time to serving the Lord? Have you ever thought about taking a semester off from school to server the Lord full-time in some way? If you said 'YES" then this is the perfect opportunity for you. Our next semester begins mid-Jan.

Please don't let finances or anything else deter you if you know God wants you to serve Him in this way. If He calls you, He will provide all you need!!!! All you need is a high school education, a love for the Lord and desire to serve Him to qualify to be one of our English teachers.

If you have any other questions about being an ESL teacher in Ukraine contact C.O.I. as soon as possible. If you know that the Lord is not calling you to do this then I challenge you to tell everyone you know who loves the Lord and has thought about missionary work or is wanting to serve the Lord overseas about C.O.I. and the opportunities in Ukraine

God bless you all and may He use you as a missionary right where you are to share the good news of Christ!!!

Who needs prayer?

Just recently I started a series of study on prayer. The longer I am in ministry the more I realize the need for prayer. If you are anything like me, you get caught up in your daily routine and then in all the paper work and office chores.

If you are a full time minister, part time minister or part of the body of Christ, then ask yourself these questions:

  • How often am I involved in ministry?
  • What is the goal of each ministry?

Many of us do some type of ministry everyday. During summer tour season with COI, we minister in several different places in one day. Our main goal is to preach the good news and bring God’s love to people in order to bring them to Christ. But how much do we pray?

During my study on prayer, I read this verse from the Bible:

"Stay alert; be in prayer so you don't wander into temptation without even knowing you're in danger. There is a part of you that is eager, ready for anything in God. But there's another part that's as lazy as an old dog sleeping by the fire." (MSG)

That verse was a reflection of me and my attitude toward prayer. I realize that there is a part of me that is ready for anything. I’m ready to be in the office and do all kinds of work. And there is another part of me that is just like that lazy dog laying by the fire. I realize that when you have a prayer meeting by yourself it’s easy to postpone it and say to yourself "Oh, I can do it later." Then before you know it the day has ended.

We just started daily prayer meetings for COI, summer tour season, our missionaries and staff around the world, local ministries, local churches, and our personal needs. I’m committed to pray daily for these things. I realize more and more that I need these prayers more than anybody else.

I want to finish with this verse:

Matt. 18:19

"When two of you get together on anything at all on earth and make a prayer of it, my Father in heaven goes into action."

Preparing

“Repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand…the voice of one crying in the wilderness; Prepare the way of the Lord; Make His paths straight.”

                                            John 3:2&3

This verse has been something that has been on my heart lately. We need to have a passion in our hearts like John the Baptist did. Our hearts need to be crying out ‘Repent…The kingdom of heaven is at hand…prepare the way of the Lord!’

There are so many hurting people in this world. Everyone with a different reason for their heaviness of heart. So many people who need the Joy of the Lord to be their strength.

COI, be encouraged! God is giving you eyes like His, and hearts full of compassion to see His people and be His hands and feet where He has placed you. My prayer is that we will press on, continuing to prepare the way for the Lord, making His paths straight. My cry out to God’s people is to pray for His eyes to see this world and to answer His call to go and make disciples of all nations.

The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few, join with me in praying to the Lord of the harvest to send more laborers into His fields. For when we call to Him, He will answer and show us great and mighty things we have not known(Jer.33:3).

May God be glorified in and through COI, and may others know Him in a deep, intimate way because of how He is working through us and among us.

“Yours, O LORD, is the greatness,The power and the glory, The victory and the majesty; For all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours;Yours is the kingdom, O LORD, And You are exalted as head over all”

                                                       I Chronicles 29:11

Open Office in Ministry

Open Office is an Open Source suite of applications that can be used as a replacement for Microsoft Office or Corel Office. Open Office has a few endearing qualities that make it ideal for use in ministry, both in an administrative and missionary environment. The advantages and disadvantages follow;

Advantages;

  1. It’s Free - That’s correct! Open Office’s primary advantage is the cost. It only costs the time to download and install the program.
  2. It can open files created with Microsoft Office and Corel Office. That includes word processing documents created with Word and WordPerfect; presentation documents created with PowerPoint and Impress; not to mention spreadsheets created with Excel and StarCalc.
  3. It can save documents in the aforementioned formats with multiple version support too. All testing I’ve done indicates that if you save a document with Open Office in say Microsoft Word format and you send that document to someone who only has Microsoft Office, they’ll be able to open it 99% of the time.
  4. It also offers it’s own database creator as well.
  5. Open Office is available to run on Windows, MAC and Linux operating systems.
  6. It’s Open Source and actively developed. That means new features and compatibility is constantly being added to the suite of programs.
  7. It’s easy to learn how to use.
